Playstation 3 movies on demand release date

It looks like Sony may soon be winning the battle for online movies on-demand. The service isn’t yet available in Europe but they’ve got over 40 studio partners offering movies, which is way more than Microsoft. Expect the service to arrive in Europe by the end of November 2009 via a PSN firmware update.

Sky on the Xbox 360

You can already get Sky TV on your Xbox 360 but it may also be coming to the PS3 in future. According to a Sky document, the service which doesn’t require a satellite dish may be reaching other platforms so there’s hope yet if you don’t have a dish or one of Microsoft’s machines.

Modern Warfare 2 single player petition

A new bike peripheral is set to come out for the Nintendo Wii. The Cyberbike will encourage people to get fit using 18 circuits and an array of ‘impossible’ machines. It’s out in January and is sure to end up in the spare room to hang washing on.

Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box UK release date

Following our review of Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box on the latest edition of Gamesweasel TV we’ve been asked when the UK release date is. Nintendo are actually selling the long awaited follow up to Professor Layton and the Curious Village under the title of Professor Layton and Pandoras Box in the UK and Europe. The game features new a storyline, new mysteries to solve and over 150 new puzzles – DS owners connected to the internet will be able to download an additional 33 puzzles after the games release. Already out in the US Nintendo have confirmed that the Professor Layton and the Diabolical Box UK release date is the 25th September 2009.

Fans of the series will be pleased to hear that there are 2 further games in the series of DS puzzle games – Professor Layton and the Last Time Travel which is already out in Japan but awaiting development to English. Professor Layton and the Specters Flute is actually set 3 years prior to the Curious Village and deals with how the Professor and Luke met, this title is due for release late November 2009 in Japan with no word on a US or UK release yet.

Even though the Xbox 360 has gone through many redesigns to avoid the ‘Xbox 360 red ring of death’, Microsoft aren’t denying a 54.2% lifetime failure rate. They claim they’re still working on improvements to make the hardware less prone to failure and needing the Xbox towel trick. There are rumours flying about that, just like the PS3, we may see a newer, slimmer model appearing soon.

Official PS3 Slim release date

In perhaps the worlds worst kept secret Sony has finally confirmed the existence and release date for the PS3 Slim console. The slimline Playstation 3 console, which is a third smaller and lighter, includes a 120GB hard disc and more recession friendly price tag of $299.

Not only is this one of the cheapest ways to enjoy Blu Ray movies but Sony have announced both access to a greater library of downloadable movies but also an update in the firmware which gives you access to hundreds of hours of stuttering Holby City repeats courtesy of the BBC iPlayer. You’ll won’t have long to wait either, the PS3 Slim release date is 7th of September 2009.

Microsoft has replied to criticisms of its games on demand service being more expensive for some games in some territories compared to others. Apparently, it’s down to each territory to decide their own pricing.

The Xbox 360’s going to get exclusive rights to Netflix, a service that lets you stream movies and TV directly to your TV through your Xbox 360. It will be available for free to subscribers who already pay for the service and they’re planning to add other social services like Twitter Xbox 360 integration support.

Rumours are flying around that Sony will be unveiling their new PS3 slim at GamesCom in Germany next week. The new machine is rumoured to be a lot slimmer than the current monster, and they’re also expected to announce the PSP Go will be cheaper than first announced.
